Hazard, who is yet to return to full Chelsea training, will not feature against Derby in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, although it is likely he would’ve been rested even if fit.

The 27-year-old was in sensational form before the setback, netting seven goals in his opening nine league games.

Blues assistant Gianfranco Zola said: “He’s certainly much better. Not sure today [Tuesday], maybe tomorrow he’s going to join us in training.

“I don’t think he’s going to be involved in the game [against Derby], but he’s looking quite good for the weekend. We are pleased because he’s such an important player for us.”

Zola also highlighted injury problems for Pedro and Olivier Giroud, who are doubts for the Derby game.

“Pedro has had a stomach ache. He came off on Sunday. He was getting better, but there is still a little problem. We can assess him tomorrow.

“Also Olivier Giroud he has a little fatigue problem with one of the legs. We’re going to assess him tomorrow as well.”

Derby boss Frank Lampard, who makes an emotional return to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, described Hazard as the best player in world football on current form.

“I love watching him and he’s in his prime,” Lampard said.

“He is an absolutely outstanding player in world football. Let’s hope he wants a rest! I think he’s scared of coming up against my team!”
