He has a deal running until June 2023 having penned fresh terms last summer, and the Magpies have no plans to lose a player considered vital to their Premier League safety.

However, Chelsea and Spurs are expressing interest in Lascelles just over two months before the transfer window reopens.

According to the Chronicle, scouts from the two clubs have kept an eye on Lascelles over the last couple of weeks, with moves for him potentially on the cards in January.

Lascelles, 24, first joined Newcastle in the summer of 2014, immediately returning to former club Nottingham Forest on loan for the 2014/15 season.

He’s gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Tyneside club, and was named captain by Rafa Bentiez in August 2016 to succeed the departing Fabricio Coloccini.

That campaign, Lascelles skippered Newcastle to promotion back to the Premier League, and he’s remained a consistent performer in the top flight since then.

He’s started nine of Newcastle’s 10 games this season, only missing the home defeat by Chelsea having reportedly had a training ground bust-up over Benitez’s tactics prior to the fixture.
