NOT GIVING UP

Marotta played a key role in bringing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juve and his new employers will be hoping he can help lure big names to the San Siro

Inter Milan will make a renewed approach for ex-Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric in January after hiring football supremo Beppe Marotta.

The San Siro club tried to sign the Croatia international in the summer, but they were knocked back by Real Madrid.

The European champions informed Inter the 33-year-old was not for sale and talks broke down in August.

Inter remain big fans of Modric and they are now ready to return for him during the January transfer window.

According to Tuttosport, in the next few days the club will announce the arrival of Marotta – who has left his role as CEO of Juventus.

The 61-year-old will bring with him a wealth of experience, not least in transfers and negotiations.

During his time at Juventus, Marotta helped bring some of the world’s biggest players to the club – such as Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

Juve are hopeful that the Italian’s experience of dealing with Real will help them broker a deal for Modric in January.

The club’s owners have set aside money for the move and it will be left to Marotta to seal the deal.

The 61-year-old’s new job title has not been confirmed, but he is expected to focus on the footballing side of affairs. Current Inter CEO, Alessandro Antonello, will then be left to deal with business matters.

Marotta’s official announcement and unveiling is likely to be made this week.
