A Tottenham fan joined talkSPORT to express his belief that manager Mauricio Pochettino should leave Spurs.

Pochettino, has been installed as one of the favourites to succeed Julen Lopetegui as Real Madrid boss following the latter’s sacking on Monday night.

The former Southampton coach admitted earlier this week that he has never before been this unhappy at Tottenham, with the club’s stadium delays and transfer failures said to be frustrating him.

Defeat to Manchester City on Monday left the Lilywhites five points off top spot in the Premier League table, with many considering them lucky to be as high as they are given how disappointing their performances have been this season.

Spurs’ true struggles have shown up in Europe, with the north Londoners all but out the Champions League having failed to win any of their first three group stage matches.

Given everything Pochettino has done for Tottenham since his appointment as manager in 2014, support for the 46-year-old is almost universal amongst the club’s support.

However, there are dissenters within the crowds, including Spurs fans Charlie, who joined talkSPORT on Tuesday morning to express his belief that Pochettino should leave!

“I’m just not a big MoPo (sic) fan at Tottenham,” Charlie told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“I think we reached our peak with him a couple of years ago when we lost out to Leicester, and I think since then we’ve gone backwards.

“Our style of football is not as attractive as it once was, and we don’t have the energy or enthusiasm we once had.

“Actually I think it would be good for Tottenham for him to go.

“He doesn’t have a plan B, I think he’s very arrogant, and he’s unproven.

“If he goes to Real Madrid he’ll get a bumper paycheck but he’ll be gone within two or three years.”

Asked who should replace Pochettino if he does depart north London, Charlie named another Premier League manager.

“I would take Eddie Howe if I’m honest with you,” he responded. “I’ve always been an admirer of Eddie Howe and I think he plays the type of football that is synonymous with Tottenham over the years.

“I genuinely think if he had the likes of Harry Kane, [Erik] Lamela and [Christian] Eriksen at his disposal we would be competing at a higher level.”
